The German originated brand, Birkenstock is all set to collaborate with the high-end luxury brand Jil Sander for the season of Autumn-Winter 2021-22. In a collection brought to life by Creative Directors Lucie and Luke Meier for life in nature, the unisex footwear styles for Jil Sander+ combine luxury, comfort and design like never before, keeping the classic aesthetic of the Birkenstock intact.
The partnership resulted in four different models; three of which are the reimaginations of classic Birkenstock styles and the fourth is a completely new design built from scratch. The Meiers have balanced construction with Birkenstock’s DNA by discovering a bridge which connects purpose and design, giving a different spirit to sandals which have become contemporary icons.
‘We chose to work with Jil Sander, believing in the new interpretation of Lucie and Luke Meier. In our view, they have given this important brand relevance and authenticity. Together we achieved what we always strive for – real newness and product innovation.’ – Oliver Reichert, BIRKENSTOCK CEO.
‘We have worn Birkenstocks for as long as we can remember. They are comfortable to wear, but also comforting. They have been with us in some remarkable places, from camping in the Canadian wilderness to sitting fireside in the Swiss Alps. However the quality and integrity of Birkenstock is what convinced us to work with them.’ – Lucie and Luke Meier, Creative Directors, Jil Sander.
The three existing models, the Arizona, Milano and the Berlin are given a sporting approach with an exaggerated silhouette featuring a rounded, wider and higher profile combined with larger outsoles gracing it with a strong look and grounded footprint. The pairs are dubbed in a more clear, graphic, and natural palette involving cream, olive and black. The straps are enlarged and elongated than usual and appear in a pure, raw edged calfskin or suede to amplify the rough and soft feel of the sandals simultaneously. The reworked buckles are thinner and are crafted in precious satin nickel.
The collection was made available in India on the 9th of July 2021, exclusively on www.birkenstock.in/1774
