As a studied interpretation of outdoor clothing’s form-follows-function hallmarks, Jonathan Anderson’s Loewe adds an edge of eccentricity to the category with “Eye/LOEWE/Nature.”
Drawing parallels to the collection’s sustainable promise, pieces are constructed from a variety of organic and recycled fabrics. Encompassing a number of core themes, indicative of what Anderson believes to represent the “Loewe man,” the collection’s duality is punctuated by a synthesis between the subdued aesthetic of function and form’s eccentricity. An explorative approach to fabric selection also sees the campaign transformed into a sort of mobile laboratory, with which Loewe intends to explore more sustainable practices in the future.
“I think ‘Eye/LOEWE/Nature’ shows how I see the Loewe man: he is day-to-day, but at the same time has a need to experiment. In a weird way, there is a conservatism to him, with a certain eccentricity inside.”
The collection is expansive, and encompasses a number of outdoor staples, including pullover parkas, durable workwear jackets, polo shirts, and a new range of organic cotton T-shirts. Highlight pieces from the “Eye/LOEWE/Nature” line feature landscape graphic placements, and come complete in a palette of attention-grabbing colors. A recycled polyester fleece also forms the body of trousers, shorts, and sweaters, with the collection’s “Eye” signifier designed by M/M (Paris) setting it apart from earlier releases.
Interjecting the collection’s clothing segment is a line of dynamic accessories, too. In addition to sturdy calfskin hiking boots in turquoise, orange, and yellow, bags enriched with a wider range of functionalities are featured, and introduce materials such as denim, canvas, and a fluffy wool camouflage — the latter material promises to become a noteworthy one as the season progresses.
With general release scheduled for January 9, Loewe’s SS20 collection can now be shopped now
