Virgil Abloh and Louis Vuitton have now come up with the very new “Felt Line,” which debuted during the house’s Fall/Winter 2021 show last year. The capsule reflects Louis Vuitton’s approach to circularity, with three iconic leather goods crafted in eco conscious materials.
The “Felt Line” bags are molded from organic cotton, recycled wool-based jacquard, 100% recycled polyester taken from existing stocks and chains constructed from recycled plastic, and provide reimagined versions of Louis Vuitton classics. Every piece in the capsule is thoroughly inspired by moving blankets, which Abloh took as the starting point for the felt designs.
Virgil reconstructed the Keepall and Keepall XS, as well as the Soft Trunk — a design he introduced for his first Louis Vuitton show — into a grey felt design. Each bag is completed using a Monogram pattern in a lurex thread tufting, which creates the illusion of disappearing and reappearing across the bag. Other details include lining produced from existing stocks, chains and corners using recycled plastic in a multicolor effect, and straps and handles in Leather Working Group-certified leather.
Christelle Capdupuy, Louis Vuitton’s global head of sustainability, during the launch stated that, “We also target the use of existing stocks of raw materials, in order to preserve natural resources. This is often done by Virgil Abloh in his collections. Today, we’re furthering our commitments by extending our sustainable development approach to all of raw materials with the goal of reaching 100 percent responsibly sourced raw materials by 2025.”
The entire “Felt Line” will be available at Louis Vuitton locations on July 16. Additionally, a coat in the same material will also be available in limited quantities. Take a look at the bag below.
