While the fashion world mourns the loss of Virgil Abloh, Louis Vuitton ensures that the late creative director’s work is remembered. The second half of Pre-Fall 2022 has been unveiled by the French luxury fashion brand as a forerunner to the main Fall/Winter 2022 collection.
The collection continues to exemplify and carry on Abloh’s design philosophy. When explaining the purpose behind his pre-collection approach and clothing line, Abloh once said, “My philosophy is very much informed by the clothes that people actually wear. What I do is an analysis of a generation: what do people buy and why do they wear it? That question naturally creates an equal interest in tradition as it does in changing tradition. But it’s also about challenging myself and exploring different land. That is creative freedom.”
The Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2022 campaign is set in Lyon, and it serves as a pictorial dialogue that informs the pre-sporting collections and workwear influences. Tailored trousers get design cues from expansive silhouettes and are paired with blousons instead of jackets for a more laid-back look. A tonal black wool varsity jacket with embossed LV monogram leather sleeves is seen, as is a tonal black wool varsity jacket with embossed LV monogram leather sleeves. A white leather and shearling bomber jacket, a bottle green motorcycle jacket with leather paneling, and a padded turquoise jacket with the house’s iconic flower pattern are all great layering pieces.
The collection’s relaxed tailoring sets the tone, echoing Abloh’s use of oversized cuts and light fabrics. A striped blue suit with Abloh’s distinctive pin-hook clasp is also included in the collection. The stripes are symbolic of the stripes that used to line Louis Vuitton trunks. Abloh reinvents the three-piece suit, bringing it into the twenty-first century. The outfit is fitted with coats, pants, and wrap skirts while maintaining a formal silhouette.
The second chapter of the Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2022 men’s collection will be available in stores and online starting in March 2022.
