New Balance brought back the 2002R silhouette recently. Owing to several collaborators and an equally strong collection of GRs, the silhouette quickly reverted to form, laying the stage for many release thereafter. Coming soon is one of its most interesting collections yet: the “Protection Pack.”
Equipped in three colorways — “Rain Cloud, “Phantom,” and “Sea Salt” — the range sees the 2010 classic dressed abstract, its look is not too different to CdG’s work with Nike. The textural suede panels, for example, are treated similar to the Japanese label’s AF1 Mid, with each cut and extended passed their usual points. Additional pieces are laid atop as well, from which the pack likely draws its namesake. With the tongue following suit thematically with its exposed foam and unfinished edges, the tooling and base construction retain a look far more ordinary.
The trio are expected to release via select retailers and newbalance’s website soon.
