New Balance has been focusing on the classics such as the 991 and 992 and a few other newer silhouettes such as the 57/40 recently, however once a while the brand goes down to their archive section and pulls out classics like the 878 and gives it a makeover. The 878 was an underrated model and was used as a base for the END and size? collaboration back in 2019.
The 878 will now be coming back in dressed in the classic NB gray shade. Constructed with a layered mixture of mesh and suede, the uppers arrive with a steel gray mesh on the bottom and a signature gray suede and leather on the overlays, all the way from the midfoot to the eyestays. The “N” logo on the quarter also gets the silver treatment, plus the 878 graphic text is visible on the tongue and under the collar. A New Balance spell out is also available on the heels. Rounding off the shoe is a monochromatic sail midsole with ABZORB cushioning and a touch of blue.
The shoe is available at retailers such as Upsuke for an approximate of $157 USD.
