What is necessary to create hype for a sneaker making a comeback after a long period????
Well going by the looks of it the answer to the question is a collaboration. The idea seemed to have worked for brands like Supreme who upscaled the value of retros such as the Uptempo and Tailwind IV to a new level. Recently too, Nike successfully revived the Dunks and New Balance the 327. New Balance’s dependency on the idea helped them to a major extent, for example the inaugural duo with the Persian label Casablanca. Following the idea New Balance hopes for similar results for the upcoming ‘89 New Balance 550 silhouette arriving in multiple colorways backing up their collaboration with Aime Leon Dore.
With 16 colorways to choose from – two from the lot have already surfaced namely the “Bred” and “Shadow”. In the sweet sixteen you will find some major basketball inspirations such as Sonics, Clippers, Bulls and Pacers to name a few. A lot of white based colorways were also spotted on the list. Colorways similar to the ALD white/grey, a UNC based, suede toe and many more were a part of it.
