Louis Vuitton in its first three-year creative partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) which started back in January 2020, the duo has produced a bespoke Trophy Travel Case, a double-door wardrobe trunk stamped with dual iconography, and a debut capsule collection comprised of limited-edition clothing, leather goods, accessories and shoes, each of which is the creative child of French craftsmanship and American sports. Today, the French fashion house has made official statement regarding the next instalment to the genre-crossing
partnership: the Louis Vuitton x NBA Capsule Collection II.
The lead creative Virgil Abloh‘s, forward-thinking design forming the zest, the Pre-Fall 2021 basketball-backed range expands the running partnership with an exploration of ’90s court-side mania via Maison’s high fashion perspective. In accordance with the initial LV x NBA capsule, the second range identifies itself with the three compartments of a professional player’s closet, those being travel, game, and press conference.
Travel section comprises of relaxed-cut suit components, including a blouson and trouser emblazoned with a floral motif and a hoodie and short set with an engraved logo, among other iterations. The informal shirts ornamented with multi-toned lettering that spells out the fashion label’s name, referencing the typeface of a different NBA team for each letter and shorts endorsing the brand’s varsity logo, shines out in the game lineup. In the press conference compartment, sharply tailored suits and overcoats provide a professional aesthetic, while a graphic-embossed
leather bomber gives a retro yet elegant luxurious look.
The accessories department is bedwelled by leather bags which gives a fresh outlook on the basketball-net detailing that occurred in the first capsule, with new ball pouches and basketball carriers. In addition to these , a black monogram-printed leather Keepall takes up the space along with logo-engraved slides, sleek loafers and monogram ankle boots, amongst many other contemporary designs. Oversized chain necklaces and a boxy ring showcasing the LV x NBA logo — a tribute to the league’s championship ring — rounds out the new jewelry pieces.
Abloh both worked with designer Don Crawley to construct chosen pieces, comprising a signature blouson, emblematic shorts, an NBA-embossed Keepall bag, alongside the range’s logo-centric, hoop-inspired accessories.
The Louis Vuitton x NBA Capsule Collection II will be ready to shop in stores worldwide from Friday, May 28th.
