Following Michael Jordan’s abrupt exit from the NBA, Nike told the historic story of Michael Jordan on the outsole of the Air Jordan 9 and enlisted the “Powder Blue” colorway of the shoe to tell the story of his time at the University of North Carolina.
One of the most iconic images of Michael other than the game of basketball was, a photoshoot done for an advertisement for Champs Sports and their collegiate licensed jersey program that they had with Nike Team Sports in 1994. This was the first time that Michael Jordan appeared in an ad in years that wasn’t focused around the Jordan line.
“University Blue” Air Jordan 4 Retro is announced as a part of the Spring 2021 Jordan Brand Lineup by Jordan Brand. This pair of Air Jordan 4s is the first to incorporate the UNC color scheme to the model and does this with a University Blue suede upper, on the tooling and TPU set that is very familiar to fans of the White/Cement Air Jordan 4. The story of inspiration of the shoes is told with a jersey-style tag attached to the side of the tongue Jordan Jumpman logo bringing it back to the 1994 advertisement.
After initially being thought to drop in the Summer season, these were pulled up in time to drop in March, but after a delay, the pair are now set to drop on April 28, 2021.
